In Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida law does much of the work for you: any cemetery must let a licensed outside firm install a monument you bought elsewhere, without an installation fee. What varies is the cemetery’s own specification. The City of Fort Lauderdale prints the most detailed bronze rules in South Florida, including an alloy rule our plaque does not match, while Woodlawn Park, Vista, Dade Memorial and the Catholic cemeteries publish nothing. We cast the bronze and ship it with shipping included; a Florida licensed installer sets it. Allow six to eight weeks from payment to delivery. Casting, hand finishing and shipping from our foundry take most of that time, and we send a free written proof before anything is cast. If your cemetery sets markers only in certain months, order early enough for its next installation window.

Florida’s marker law in Miami-Dade and Broward
Under section 497.278 of the Florida Statutes no cemetery company may charge a fee for installing a monument bought from and installed by an outside firm, and section 497.280 stops a cemetery tying a grave sale to its own markers. Section 497.260(2) makes both apply to city, county and nonprofit cemeteries as well as private ones. The cemetery still marks the spot, inspects the work, may ask for proof of insurance (but not set limits or demand a bond), and may post uniform size and style rules. Installation is by a Florida licensed installer. The full state picture is on the Florida page.
City of Fort Lauderdale cemeteries: sizes and fittings
Fort Lauderdale runs Lauderdale Memorial Park, Sunset Memorial Gardens, Evergreen and Woodlawn under rules amended and approved on September 3, 2019. “Only bronze markers or tablets shall be allowed in Sunset Memorial Gardens and Lauderdale Memorial Park”, installed level with the ground on a concrete or granite base; Evergreen and Woodlawn also allow uprights, with bronze either flush or mounted on the monument. Before ordering you must verify with management the design, size and lettering style, and a Memorial Installation Permit is due “at least five (5) days in advance” of installation.
| Fort Lauderdale memorial | Size as printed |
|---|---|
| Individual | Width not less than twelve (12) and not more than eighteen (18) inches; length twenty-four (24) inches |
| Companion | Width fourteen (14) inches; length forty-four (44) inches |
| Baby | Width not less than six (6) and not more than ten (10) inches; length not less than twelve (12) and not more than twenty (20) inches |
| Family | Width 13 to 24 inches; length 42 to 60 inches |
The rules also ask for 2 inch flanges with edges not less than 3/8 inch high, metal not less than 3/16 inch thick, and “Six (6) bronze attachment bolts, each measuring eight (8) inches in length”. Our markers come with lugs and 3/8 inch brass all thread studs, so that fitting also differs from the city’s text.
Our alloy differs from Fort Lauderdale’s written specification
We want to be plain about this. Fort Lauderdale requires copper “Not less than 87%”, tin and zinc not less than 5 percent each, and lead “Not more than 3%”. Our LG2 bronze is 85 percent copper and 5 percent lead, so it does not match that written specification. The city also asks outside bronze without a manufacturer’s certificate on file for “an affidavit of analysis from an independent laboratory made on a test bar run from the heat”. We publish our alloy and can supply a certificate of authenticity stating it, but that certificate is a statement of what the plaque is, not proof that it satisfies the city’s rule. If your grave is in a Fort Lauderdale city cemetery, ask the Cemetery System office whether it will accept LG2 before you order, and do not order until it says yes in writing. The city also computes a per square inch perpetual care and permit fee whose amount is not printed in the rules; ask for that too.
Miami cemeteries that publish nothing
Woodlawn Park Cemetery, Vista Memorial Gardens in Miami Lakes (described as family owned in 2021), Dade Memorial Park and the City of Miami Cemetery have no marker rules or fees online. The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Miami, which run Our Lady of Mercy in Doral and Our Lady Queen of Heaven in North Lauderdale, say only that their counselors help families choose a memorial; no sizes, outside vendor policy or fees are published. Because Florida law applies to all of them, the question is not whether you may use an outside supplier but what size, base and emblem the office requires. Ask for its posted specifications, and have your licensed installer file the application.
South Florida National Cemetery
South Florida National Cemetery at Lake Worth says nothing is to be attached to or placed on headstones and niche covers, and VA orders and sets the government marker there at no cost. Private bronze from us is for veterans and spouses in private South Florida cemeteries, where a VA medallion can be fixed to a privately purchased marker. See veteran bronze grave markers.

What we supply in Miami, and pet and garden plaques
For a South Florida lawn grave the product is a flat bronze bolted to a concrete or granite base.
We supply the bronze. Every plaque is cast in solid LG2 statuary bronze (85 percent copper, 5 percent tin, 5 percent zinc, 5 percent lead) with raised polished lettering on a textured background, a hand applied color and a clear protective coating. Cemetery markers are cast with lugs and fitted with 3/8 inch brass all thread studs, nuts and washers for bolting to a granite or concrete base; columbarium plates use 1/4 inch fittings. We publish the alloy openly and can supply a certificate of authenticity stating it, so a cemetery that has its own alloy rule can check our figures against it before you order; a few cemeteries specify a higher copper or lower lead content than LG2, and where a page knows of one it says so. The granite or concrete base and the setting are arranged through the cemetery office or a local monument dealer; we do not pour bases or install.
A 24 by 12 inch adult marker is $1,697.45 cast to order and a 16 by 8 inch marker, within the width and length of Fort Lauderdale’s Baby size, is $978.39, subject always to the alloy question above. Many Miami families also order a small bronze for a home garden or a pet: a 6 by 4 inch plaque is $382.98, shipping included. See outdoor pet memorial plaques, memorial garden plaques and, for Tampa and Orlando, the Tampa page.

How to order
- Ask the cemetery office for its written marker rules: the size it allows for your space, the base it requires, who may set the marker and the fee. Most offices email the sheet the same day, and several states require the cemetery to keep it in print for you.
- Open the free design tool, pick the shape and type the width and height in inches. The price in US dollars updates as you go, shipping to any address in the continental United States included.
- Add the names, dates and wording, choose a border and background, and add an emblem, motif or photo if you want one. Choose lugs with studs if the plaque will be bolted to a granite or concrete base, or a flat back for adhesive mounting on a wall or niche.
- Save the design and order it from My Account. We send a written proof you can forward to the cemetery for approval, and nothing is cast until you approve it. Need the full 24 by 12 inch marker size? Tell us when you order; it is cast to order at the same price as the 22 1/16 by 12 inch size in the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Miami cemetery charge to install a marker I bought online?
Not an installation fee, when a licensed outside firm supplies and installs it. Florida section 497.278 bars that fee in every cemetery, though permit and perpetual care charges can still apply.
Does your bronze meet Fort Lauderdale’s alloy rule?
No. Fort Lauderdale asks for at least 87 percent copper and no more than 3 percent lead; our LG2 is 85 percent copper and 5 percent lead. Ask the city’s Cemetery System office whether it will accept LG2 before ordering.
What size is a Fort Lauderdale individual marker?
The 2019 rules give width not less than 12 and not more than 18 inches and a length of 24 inches. Companions are 14 by 44 inches, which we quote on request.
What do Woodlawn Park and Vista require?
Neither publishes marker rules. Ask the office for its posted size and style specifications; Florida law requires such rules to be uniform and conspicuously posted.
Who installs the marker in Miami?
A Florida licensed monument installer. We cast and ship the bronze; we do not pour bases or install.
