The skills of our graphic designers

Not every customer needsto be tech-savvy. If you aren’t, it may be daunting to use our online DYO system. Fortunately, we have a team of graphic artists in-house. These designers are capable of taking your requests via email and creating a high-fidelity mock-up for you.Contacting the team can also be a good option for you if you would like a more elaborate plaque design that you can’t adequately represent in a mock-up in the DYO system.

The first mock-upmade by our staff is free, and you can get two changes to this after payment is received. Our graphics team always makes sure to create a design that you are fully satisfiedwithin as few iterations as possible.

Our staff are highly skilled in memorial design and are more than happy to help you make your idea become a reality, honouring a loved one as well as possible. They work together closely, asking for feedback and suggesting improvements for each other’s designs.

Adobe Illustrator is used primarily for personalized memorial garden plaques designs, as most of the elements on a plaque are either text or motifs rather than photos. Adobe Photoshop is used for image retouching and alterations. Both Photoshop and Illustrator are part of Adobe Creative Cloud and are industry standard. The team has active subscriptions to the software to ensure they have the most up-to-date versions.

If you would like an image on your plaque, you have three options. You could have an image engraved directly into the bronze plaque or have a separate colour photo placed onto the bronze. The separate images can be made of either vitreous enamel or ceramic, with ceramic being the cheaper of the two.

Regardless of whether or not you choose to contact the team instead of using the DYO system, if you intend to include photographic elements on your Custom Bronze Address Plaques, please make sure to upload or send a file that is high resolution. The higher the image quality, the more likely it will look crisp and sharp when engraved. A common problem encountered is people download and use photos that are from Facebook or Messenger, which compress images. The smaller file size and reduced resolution make the images load faster on a device, but less suitable for high-fidelity engraving. A good rule of thumb is that if your picture is more than 1 megabyte (MB), or 800x800px, your Art Plaque image will be sharper and with more detail visible. Another way to check image resolution is to simply zoom into the image on your screen and check if the image looks blurry or pixelated.

Each engraving element can be processed and cut at a resolution of 200 dots per inch (DPI). You can get an idea of the detail of 200 DPI engraving through images of our work. Most computer screens are a resolution of 72 pixels per inch (PPI), with more advanced laptops and monitors being 150 PPI. DPI and PPI are equivalent to each other, except DPI is used to define dots of ink and pixels are the tiny dots of light that make up a digital screen.

While the DYO system is afeature of our company, please don’t feel pressured to use it when we have a capable team of designers on hand to assist you if needed.
